How It Works
Click any button or type directly in the expression field, then press ENTER or the blue Enter key.
2nd key: Activates blue secondary functions. Press 2nd then SIN to get sin⁻¹. The status bar shows "2nd" in blue while active.
Angle mode: Toggle DEG / RAD with the MODE key or the buttons below the calculator. In DEG mode, sin(90) = 1. In RAD mode, sin(π/2) = 1.
ANS: Press 2nd + (-) to insert the last result. Chain calculations like ANS × 3.
MATH menu: Opens a panel with advanced functions — abs, round, floor, cube root, nCr, nPr, factorial, gcd, lcm, rand, randInt.
Variables: After calculating, press STO→ to store the result in a letter A–Z. The variable panel below the calculator shows all stored values.
Frequently Asked Questions
Complete Guide
The TI-84 Plus CE is the standard graphing calculator used across US high school and college math courses. Every SAT, ACT, AP, and IB exam permits it.
**Trig functions**
Switch to DEG before computing angles in degrees. sin(30) = 0.5, cos(60) = 0.5, tan(45) = 1. The inverse functions return the angle: sin⁻¹(0.5) = 30 in DEG mode.
**Logarithms**
LOG = base-10 log. LN = natural log (base e). Press 2nd + LOG to get 10^x. Press 2nd + LN to get e^x. Change of base: log_b(x) = log(x)/log(b).
**Roots and powers**
^ raises to any power. 2nd + x² gives √(. The MATH menu holds ³√( and ˣ√( for any root.
**Probability**
10 nCr 3 = 120 combinations. 10 nPr 3 = 720 permutations. 5! = 120 (factorial). rand generates a random 0–1. randInt(1,6) rolls a die.
**Order of operations**
The TI-84 uses PEMDAS. Always parenthesize division: (3+5)/4, not 3+5/4. Implicit multiplication works: 2π = 2×π, 3sin(90) = 3×sin(90°).
**MATH menu functions**
abs( — absolute value. round(x,n) — rounds to n decimal places. int( — floor. iPart( — truncates. fPart( — fractional part. min/max — minimum or maximum of two values. gcd/lcm — number theory operations.
